Fresh off a victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Tuesday they’ll wear their “Prowler” throwback uniforms for a second time this season when they host the New York Jets on Dec. 15.

The uniforms feature a black helmet with Jacksonville’s original logo on the sides, teal jerseys with white numbers outlined in gold and black and a full-bodied jaguar logo on the sleeves.

The look is complete with gold and black sleeve cuffs, white pants with a teal, gold and black striping pattern down the sides and black socks, matching what the franchise wore from 1998-2007.

The uniforms are often mistaken as Jacksonville’s original design, though the 1995-96 set actually featured block numbers while the 1997 uniforms had black side panels on the jerseys.

The Jaguars decided to bring the uniforms back this year as part of their 30th season celebration, though they initially announced they would only be worn during Sunday’s 37-34 win over the Colts.

Jacksonville also painted a throwback design on the field at EverBank Stadium, with their classic logo at midfield and black end zones featuring vintage wordmarks, as well as the old NFL and AFC marks, resembling their end zone designs during the 1998 and 1999 playoffs.

Interestingly, the Jaguars did not wear teal jerseys against the Jets during the uniform’s original run. The Jets also never wore the road version of their “New York Sack Exchange” era uniforms against the Jaguars, which will make their looming matchup unique from a visual perspective.

The same could be said if the Jets decided instead to wear their “Classic” throwback uniforms, which will debut this Monday night against the Buffalo Bills, as they have one more open date for an alternate or throwback uniform after revealing they’ll also wear their black alternate uniforms against the Houston Texans on Oct. 31.

In fact, the first nine matchups between the Jaguars and Jets featured the former in white jerseys and the latter in green. It wasn’t until the Jets wore New York Titans throwbacks in 2011 that either team broke from that cycle, while the Jaguars didn’t wear teal jerseys in this matchup until 2019.
